digital fantasy - summary/character profiles
This is a project I've actually been working on for quite some time... (Now that I think of it, this summer marks THREE YEARS SINCE I THOUGHT UP THE FIRST CHARACTERS!!! WOW!!! THAT'S A LONG TIME!!!) So I'm VERY EXCITED TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU GUYS!!! The working title is Digital Fantasy, and it would be sort of like Mario 64, in the sense of being a platformer with one central world you get to all the levels from. It's also a pretty accurate manifestation of my soul, the ingredients being 50% Sonic and 50% Zelda(alternatively, 50% machines and 50% crazed children).
So, with that... I INTRODUCE YOU TO MY CHILDREN!!!
Story/World Summary
In ancient times, the entire world was ruled by a civilization whose technological prowess is still unrivaled to this day. Though much of its culture and history has been lost over time, this “World Empire” has left an indelible influence on the world, in the form of a supercomputer known as “the Server”.
The Server regulates time and space by means of its Core and seven Processors. Each Processor is hidden away in the region of the world it is tasked with handling. The brainwaves of the person(s) touching the Core or Processors are interpreted as instructions. This isn't always done in the most direct or obvious manner, and most often the result is the opening of a Complex – a zone of distorted space-time where the laws of physics are often bent.
The main storyline begins at Belevia University – a recently-founded school focused on studying the World Empire's technology & history, which also happens to be housed in a ruin from the period. Zev accidentally opens a Complex inside the school as part of an experiment. This sets in motion events that lead Neltessia to set out to collect the Processors, along the way meeting/fighting against Inverse.
Character Profiles
Name: Neltessia Varlone (Often called “Nel”; Losa calls her “Nelly,” much to her chagrin)
Gender: Female
Hair / Eyes: Black / Green
Age / Birthday: 16 / May 8
A student in software design and history at Belevia University. About a year ago, she came to the school with her best friend Jaybird. An ambitious girl who claims one day she's going to make history(though she's yet to figure out how). Doesn't seem to take much seriously and welcomes the arrival of anything “interesting”(a definition which sometimes includes disasters). Opinionated and says things as soon as they come to mind, regardless of whether or not it's really necessary or asked for. Reckless, headstrong and easily riled up, with a very strong sense of being bound to her word. Hates the idea of someone being the boss of her, and can be quite the smart-aleck. As a result she has trouble getting along with parents, teachers, etc.
Random Fact: People often mispronounce her name as either “Neltessa” or “Neltesha.” Either of these displeases her greatly.
Name: Jaybird(Nel & Mint call him "Bird")
Gender: Male
Hair / Eyes: Blonde / Blue
Age / Birthday: 15 / July 13
Neltessia's childhood friend taking classes in mechanical engineering at the university. More patient than Nel and always pointing out little details she missed. Naïve and childlike. It's very rare to see him unhappy. The most likely to take a sarcastic remark seriously. The fact that he notices/remembers a lot of minor details may make it seem like he's paying close attention to what's going on, but it's actually because he has trouble staying focused and ends up getting distracted by little things. Once he starts working with his hands, though, he becomes quite the opposite; extremely focused and able to tune out his surroundings to an amazing extent. Very empathetic, but that doesn't exactly mean he always says the right thing to fit the mood of the situation.
Random Fact: The one with the most outlandish imagination.
Name: Araminta Winterlock (Often called “Mint” or “Minta”)
Gender: Female
Hair / Eyes: Blue / Purple
Age / Birthday: 17 / February 16
A polite, elegant young lady recently befriended by Neltessia. She came to Belevia University from a wealthy family in a very far-off city in order to study history. Because she arrived only three months ago, Neltessia and Jaybird are her seniors, despite being younger than her. Modest and reserved, with a habit of drastically understating things. Into occult things such as tarot cards and crystal reading. Being a new student, and on top of that having quite a different background/interests than her classmates, she's seen among her peers as pretty interesting. She's able to keep calm in situations where most people would panic, but she gets really uncomfortable once she feels like attention is being put on her.
Random Fact: She can discuss black magic and curses without batting an eye, but she's terrified of ghosts. If you start telling a ghost story, she'll start screaming.
Name: Clarion
Gender: Male
Hair / Eyes: White / Green
Age / Birthday: 25 / March 28
Neltessia and Araminta's history teacher. Spent ten years as an assistant to an archaeologist named Albert Cartwright(whom he refers to as “Gramps”). It was a couple of years after Cartwright's death that he came to work at Belevia. A pretty jovial guy. Really disorganized. Doesn't seem as responsible as he should. Treats his students more like younger siblings and often sends them on minion-like tasks. Frequently gets sidetracked into off-topic monologues on historical things. Somehow just being around him makes you feel a little more relaxed.
Random Fact: Takes a lot of naps.
Name: Losa
Gender: Male
Hair / Eyes: Black / Brown
Age / Birthday: 17-18 / October 19
The leader of “Inverse”, a group of explorers whose goal is to collect the Processors. Exactly why he wants to do this he seems to be keeping secret – every time he's asked, he gives responses like “Hmm, I wonder” and “I don't know.” Mischievous & irresponsible. Often compares himself to a coyote(and howls like one, too). There's an air of innocence about him. Childish in the way that he believes he can do literally anything he can imagine. Conducts himself according to his whim, which changes quite often. His best friend is Tag, an eagle with whom he spent his early childhood as an orphan in the forest. He occasionally has trouble with such things as formulating grammatically correct sentences and understanding society. Pretty much unflappable unless confronted with electronics or large crowds of people. Gets a kick out of teasing Neltessia.
Random Fact: He can't stand sleeping indoors, but even more than that he hates hotels. The first time he stayed in a hotel was also the last.

Gender: Female
Hair / Eyes: Dark brown / Blue
Age / Birthday: 22 / June 3
Inverse's second-in-charge and a much more responsible leader than Losa. An older sister-like figure to the rest of the team – Losa in particular is like a younger brother to her, as she was the one who took him in from the forest. Normally, she's a sensitive girl and quite vocal about her feelings, but if she's in front of people she doesn't know, she adopts an attitude of being all-business and even a bit unsociable; this front quickly falls apart when Losa does something out of hand. She wants to travel the world to see things she's only seen in books.
Random Fact: Cooking is one of her favorite hobbies.
Name: Valentine (also known as “Val”)
Gender: Male
Hair / Eyes: Grey / Blue
Age / Birthday: 19 / January 2
Most often seen working on his laptop, eating candy and looking as if he doesn't want to be spoken to. A highly skilled programmer, because he's been learning almost since the time he could read. He's rarely ever not using his computer, and never lets it out of his sight. Tsundere. Snappy on occasion(especially when Losa's freaking out over something some machine did). He seems to know a lot about the Server. You could see him smiling a bit sometimes as he does his programming, if you happened to be watching closely. But he wouldn't let you watch closely.
Random Fact: He named his computer Linda. Nobody knows this, though, because he's sure he would be made fun of if they did.

Gender: Female
Hair / Eyes: Magenta / Green
Age / Birthday: 14 / April 11
A bashful girl who really looks up to Losa. She keeps a cheerful attitude despite the fact that she seems to have had a rough past. Because she tends to stay quiet and observe things, she knows a lot about the other members of Inverse – in some cases, things they don't even notice about themselves.
Random Fact: She really wants to get a cat for a pet.
Name: Zev Zasche (Nel calls him “seaweed”)
Gender: Male
Hair / Eyes: Dark green / Red
Age / Birthday: 19 / August 10
The mastermind manipulating the Server's Core, who claims to be working to create a “beautiful world”. Even though he's nearly twenty, he looks a lot closer to twelve. The definition of the word “megalomaniac” describes him quite well: that is to say, he has delusions of greatness and an obsession with doing extravagant and grand things. He uses the word “peon” a lot when addressing other people. He seems to look at the world with a mixture of scathing contempt and utter bemusement. Rants incomprehensibly and has the rather unnerving habit of breaking into fits of laughter when he's angry(this happens quite often, when Neltessia interrupts him too much). After losing his right arm and shoulder in an accident in his childhood, he received a mechanical prosthesis. Since then, he's become increasingly obsessed with machines and treats them like dear friends and family members.
Random Fact: He has a strange sort of laugh that sounds like “Kkssahaha”.

ANYWAY, she seems like she'd be really fun (and amusing) person to follow! Nel sounds like she'll be a very good main character!!
Jaybird sounds like he'll be a good match with Neltessia?! I really like how he'll be "the most likely to take a sarcastic remark seriously." THAT ALWAYS MAKES FOR GREAT AND AMUSING SITUATIONS.
Araminta sounds really cute!!! And I imagine her being very pretty as well!! I think I will like her a lot!

I ALSO HAVE A CHARACTER NAMED VALENTINE (but they're minor so that doesn't really count) BUT I DO HAVE A MAIN CHARACTER WITH THE NICKNAME VAL!!!! (Sorry for some reason it's rly amusing to me to end up with same names as people sometimes??)

I THINK IT SOUNDS REALLY INTERESTING.
First of all, I could sort of imagine how the story goes at the same time as not really knowing... which is because I only know the introduction of the story. It's a good thing, since it gets me thinking as to what's going to happen, and also excited too! 8D
I really wonder how these servers work! Looking forward to the story 8))))))
As for the characters:
Neltessia seems like quite an adventurous one! I'm already looking forward to what her interest brings forth to her ehehe
I HAVE THE FEELING I MIGHT LIKE JAYBIRD THE MOST. Seems like he can be a very cute soul... 8) and I like the reason why he seems to find details.
Araminta know all the tarots and black magic and what not BUT IS SCARED OF GHOSTS OMG HOW CUTE IS THAT!? But nice to have a clam soul... usually 8)b

I was like WHAT'S LIKE LOSA when I read that he howls like a coyote, but then it sort of makes sense after reading the entire description? I want to see him talk... 8)
Marina seems very responsible and business-like, but also seems to have quite an innocent side as well? I'm curious about the depth side of her.
Valentine sounds like a tease-able soul 8) It would probably be pretty amusing seeing him panicked 8)) I would love to poke him while he's using his beloved Linda 8)))
So Felicia is the observer in the party, in a way? She seems like a type who can be a nice friend. I'm very curious about her past, and how she became the person she is.
Seaweed-san... OR I MEANT ZEV-SAN seems like a creeper omg alskdjfh I say Nel can interrupt him as many times as she wants... 8D But at the same time, seems to have quite an interesting background as well?
AND THAT IS MY IMPRESSION SO FAR!!!! It sounds like a great story, and I would really love to read more about the story and these characters! And again, sorry for taking so long;;; and please tell me again when you make a new post!!!

I actually haven't really figured out how the story goes myself.... Like, I have a lot of background info about the world and stuff, but as far as like the main plotline I haven't really figured it out yet...
